INITIAL GOALS:
1. Complete a transect of 5,000 - 10,000 "snapshot" water samples (sea surface temperature
and pH) in coastal
waters between Canada and Virginia, as part of Christopher Swain's Swim For A Healthy
World. Embed this data into
publicly search-able online maps. To increase accessibility and relevance, present
this data in a
storytelling context that includes pictures, videos, blogs, links to
related
sites, user feedback, etc., perhaps through a partnership with a social
media platform.
2. Take 100 - 500 "snapshot" water samples to detect fecal contamination (E. coli/Enterococci) in coastal waters between Canada and Virginia, as part of Christopher Swain's Swim For A Healthy World. Embed this data into publicly search-able online maps. To increase accessibility and relevance, present this data in a
storytelling context that includes pictures, videos, blogs, links to related
sites, user feedback, etc., perhaps through a partnership with a social media platform.
3. Pursue the possibility of using a marine sewage pumpout boat as the primary escort craft for Christopher Swain's Swim For A Healthy World, particularly in high-use coastal recreation sites on the Massachusetts coast.
4. In partnership with local schools and organizations, coordinate a series of beach cleanups designed to increase public awareness of trash and other visible pollution threatening our coastal beaches.
